Planning Commission elects Melgar president and Koppel vice president

At its January meeting the San Francisco Planning Commission unanimously elected Commissioner Melgar as president and Commissioner Koppel as vice president, after brief nominations and tributes to outgoing leadership.
The San Francisco Planning Commission on Jan. 17 elected Commissioner Melgar as president and Commissioner Koppel as vice president in unanimous votes.
Commissioner Fong nominated Melgar, saying the panel is “balanced” and “we do a phenomenal job” handling contentious items. Commissioner Coppell nominated Koppel for vice president; the nomination was seconded and both motions were approved on voice vote.
Members spoke in praise of outgoing leadership and the commission’s collegial work. Commissioner Moore thanked outgoing President Hillis for two years of service and said the commission benefits from “lightheartedness and that sense of humor.” The commission completed the votes without further public comment.
The appointments take effect immediately and the commission moved on to its regular calendar.
