The Planning Commission on Jan. 14 held a lengthy and highly contested conditional-use hearing on a proposal by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) to relocate an existing specialty pharmacy from 4071 Eighteenth Street to a vacant storefront at 518 Castro Street.
Planning staff noted that because AHF operates multiple pharmacy locations nationwide, the proposed use is subject to the city’s formula-retail conditional-use rules. Staff reported that in a 300-foot radius of the site there are currently seven formula-retail businesses (about 16% of storefronts), and that AHF’s relocation would not increase the net number of formula retailers within that radius.
