Tishman Speyer proposes three Frank Stella works for 222 Second; LinkedIn leasing building, sponsors say

Planning staff and the project sponsor presented updates on the 222 Second Street office tower, including exterior refinements and a public art proposal. Kevin Guy (Planning Department) said the sponsor proposes to satisfy Section 429 public art requirements by acquiring and installing three works by artist Frank Stella on the Howard Street–facing wall of the building’s interior public open space, with visibility from the public right of way.
Carl Shannon of Tishman Speyer and Peter Weingarten of Gensler said the project has been in process since 2006 and the building is under construction. Shannon said the sponsor expected the building to finish the following June and that LinkedIn had leased the entire building; he added that the presence of a large technology tenant reflects continuing demand for downtown office space.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the public art proposal and the design refinements; no public comment opposed the item and staff took no formal action since it was presented as informational and an update.
