The Board of Appeals on Nov. 6 voted unanimously to revise the address assignment for a Potrero Hill condominium conversion, directing that 614 be assigned to the front building and 616 to the rear cottage.
Appellant Bill Hassebrock told the board he has used 616 Carolina Street as his address for nearly 30 years and that a TIC agreement reflected an intent to preserve that numbering. Co-owner Dr. Doug Abeles said he purchased the property recently and was initially indifferent to which unit received which number. Senior DBI inspector Joe Duffy explained Central Permit Bureau practice for assigning addresses and said the department would not object to a board-directed change if the board found it appropriate.
Commissioner Honda moved to grant the appeal and condition the permit to revise the address assignment as the parties requested, with the Building Department to assist in implementing the change. The motion carried 5-0.
The board asked staff to coordinate the administrative steps with DBI and notify the parties of how revised plans will be submitted and processed.
