The Planning Commission voted to initiate amendments associated with the Western SoMa Community Plan and to calendar a public hearing on or after Dec. 6 to consider proposed zoning and planning-code changes.
Corey Teague (staff) summarized the initiation packet and draft ordinances prepared by the department and noted additional informational materials will be presented at the Dec. 6 meeting on zoning scenarios, nighttime-entertainment corridor alternatives and design issues. Commissioners discussed the inclusion of a community-stabilization policy in the plan text that would call for a separate balancing policy to address affordable housing and job growth; staff said that policy would be developed and considered through trailing legislation rather than as part of the initiation packet.
A motion to adopt the three resolutions of intention to initiate amendments to the general plan, planning code and zoning maps passed unanimously (6-0).
