Developers and city to resume Schlage Lock planning with community workshop as redevelopment funding wanes

Planning staff reported that the Schlage Lock master plan remains an active priority but that, with the loss of redevelopment tax increment, the project must be retooled to match available tools and funding. Staff announced a first public workshop on Saturday the 13th at the Visitation Valley Library and said Sarah Dennis Phillips (project lead) would return to present a fuller update when available.
Jonathan Scharfman, project sponsor and general manager for UPC, said remediation at the site is about 90% complete and affirmed the sponsor’s commitment to phased implementation and working with the community and the Office of Economic and Workforce Development to identify alternative infrastructure financing approaches. Commissioners expressed support for continued community outreach and asked for updates including potential rail/transportation connections and coordination with adjacent Baylands development.
