Planning Commission adopts department'two-year budget, sends proposal to mayor

The San Francisco Planning Commission voted unanimously Feb. 16 to adopt the Planning Department'final budget and work program for fiscal years 2012'13 and 2013'14 and to forward the package to the Mayor.
Finance Manager Keith DeMartini reviewed the department'revenue and expenditure projections, saying the department expects roughly $25.5 million in revenue in FY 2012'13 and about $26.1 million in FY 2013'14. DeMartini also reported a modest $20,000 grant the department anticipates from the California Office of Historic Preservation and modest FTE adjustments driven primarily by attrition and a planned transfer of a preservation planner position to the Port of San Francisco.
"The department's budget will go to the mayor as all department budgets are due to the mayor on the 21st," DeMartini said, adding that the mayor may make changes but that it is the Commission's authority to approve the budget that is sent forward.
Commission discussion focused on clarity of presentation materials and how the department will respond to possible changes related to the dissolution of the redevelopment agency. Commissioner Seguaya asked for a staff memo clarifying some housing and environmental review line items; Director Ram said staff would follow up.
Commissioner Moore moved to adopt the department budget and work program. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all commissioners present voting "Aye." Director Ram thanked the commission for its support.
The Commission's action sends the finalized departmental budget to the Mayor's Office, which will propose the citywide budget on or about June 1. The department also said it will return to the Commission if redevelopment dissolution or other developments require budget adjustments.
