Board continues jurisdiction request for Beach Street penthouse to November

The Board of Appeals continued consideration of a jurisdiction request for 721 Beach Street to Nov. 18, 2015, after counsel said the permit holder and requester had reached an agreement narrowing the disputed rooftop penthouse. Counsel told the Board the developer will not extend an elevator to the roof and will keep a small mechanical penthouse on the roof; the roof deck will remain residential in use per the approved plans.
Attorney John Kevlin for the permit holder asked the Board for a two‑month continuance so the permit holder could submit amended plans that reflect the revised elevator design and penthouse dimensions. Planning staff confirmed the roof deck is labeled as residential in previously approved plans and advised any future permits should clearly maintain that designation. The Board granted the continuance by a 4–0 vote so parties may pursue the amendment and, if the amended permit is issued, the requester may withdraw the jurisdiction request.
