The Planning Commission on June 16 certified the final environmental impact report (EIR) for the Pier 36 Brandon Street Wharf project, concluding the document was prepared in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the CEQA Guidelines and Chapter 31 of the San Francisco Administrative Code.
Planning Department staff summarized the procedural history: the draft EIR was published Feb. 9, 2011; a public hearing on the draft was held March 24; the public comment period closed March 28; and the comments‑and‑responses document was released June 1. Staff recommended adoption of a certification motion that the final EIR accurately and adequately describes environmental impacts and that the procedures used comply with CEQA and local rules.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about historic resources and alternatives; staff pointed to responses to Historic Preservation Commission comments contained in the administrative record. After discussion, a motion to certify the final EIR passed by recorded vote. The project itself will later return to the Port Commission for subsequent project approvals.
