Following an executive-session evaluation, the Bend City Council on Dec. 3 approved a 5% salary increase for City Manager Eric King and authorized him to buy up to three weeks of additional vacation.

Council reported a composite performance rating of 4.5 out of 5 for King. During the public portion of the session, Councilor Megan Perkins moved the compensation package, calling it a way to keep the city competitive with comparable municipalities. The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.

King told council he appreciated the support and highlighted the city staff and team, saying the "team is just really strong" and that he was "humbled to be at the help side of the city".

Why it matters: The adjustment is meant to keep Bend's city manager salary competitive with peer cities and to support leadership continuity during ongoing municipal projects.

Next steps: Staff will update the employment agreement and return it to council for formal approval.
