The Board of Appeals upheld a permit to construct a new multi‑story single‑family dwelling at 1055 Ashbury Street after the project sponsor submitted revised plans that add a three‑foot setback on the upper rear floor to reduce the rear facade mass. Appellants raised concerns about the scale, mid‑block light and the historic mid‑block open space; project counsel said the revised setback and design conform to the Residential Design Guidelines and the Planning Commission’s approval.
Neighbors presented photos and argued the new structure would tower over existing development and disrupt the block pattern. Planning staff said the project met the guidelines and the Residential Design Team had reviewed the revised plans. Commissioner Fung moved to uphold the site permit with the revised drawings dated May 6, 2015; the motion passed on a 4–0 vote with one commissioner recused.
