The San Francisco Board of Appeals on May 14 rejected a rehearing request from the Lam family concerning a permit to replace a rear deck and stair at 2529–2533 Post Street.
Steve Williams, representing the Lam family, told the board the family learned of a 3R records report showing prior fires at the site and said the permit lacked a required notice of special restrictions and indicated that fire inspections were not required. “This is new evidence of issues at the subject property,” Williams said, citing Exhibit 9 and the 3R report that referenced fires in 1968 and 1986.
Architect Andy Morrell, speaking for the permit holder, said building-permit-level details and fire-wall engineering are addressed in addenda submitted during the building permit review, and that the project is being designed to comply with the California Building Code. Planning and building staff, including Senior Building Inspector Joe Duffy and Zoning Administrator Scott Sanchez, said an addenda process can document the notice on plans and that they saw no new facts warranting rehearing. Sanchez also noted he did not find the 3R exhibit in the rehearing packet.
Commissioner Fung moved to deny the rehearing request; the motion passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote. The Board directed that the notice of decision and order be released.
