Goldstein told commissioners the board is projecting a modest surplus in surcharge revenue of approximately $12,000 for the current year and anticipates about $75,000 in expenditure savings from lower-than-average appeal-related costs, leaving potential surplus dollars to be placed in a board reserve fund that already holds $175,000. She recommended keeping filing fees largely unchanged but noted some surcharges may be adjusted through the mayor's budget process to better match departmental workload and appeal volumes.
"If we continue as we currently have been for the first six months of the year, we might end the year with about $12,000 in surplus surcharge revenue," Goldstein said. Commissioners asked for a review of surcharge and filing-fee structures and discussed options to reduce paper use and move documents toward electronic delivery.
The board moved to adopt the budget recommendations, and the motion carried 4-0. Staff will submit the recommendations to the mayor's office and pursue fee-legislation changes if needed as part of the budget cycle.
