The planning department recommended changes to the Walgreens layout to protect storefront activity, but the sponsor and museum argued their joint design better serves both patrons and museum visitors. Curators emphasized that the museum’s rotating and long‑term exhibits and community programming would bring visitors and educational opportunities to the neighborhood.
Commissioners who supported the project pointed to the extensive neighborhood outreach and the likelihood that the museum will increase daytime foot traffic in a bar‑centric area. Conditions approved with the permit include limits on storefront signage and requirements intended to preserve the museum identity at street level.
