The San Francisco Planning Commission approved conditional use authorization for a wireless transmission facility consisting of eight panel antennas and associated equipment cabinets to be installed on the existing parking structure serving San Francisco General Hospital.
Planning staff (Erica Jackson) presented the request under Planning Code siting guidelines and said the site is a preferred publicly used structure location; STAC recommended approval and the Department of Public Health reviewed the RF emissions report and found it compliant with FCC public-exposure limits. T-Mobile representative Rick Hirsh described an enclosure to match an existing Sprint installation on the garage and said the antennas would improve coverage and provide 3G service in the area around the hospital.
Commissioners asked for continued public-health updates; Commissioner Moore requested the department contact Public Health to obtain the latest information on cumulative effects and asked staff to circulate a memo. The Commission approved the conditional use authorization with conditions; staff said the item will be subject to the normal compliance and monitoring processes.
