Board upholds demolition permit and conditions site permit for 530 Sanchez Street

The Board of Appeals on Jan. 16 upheld two permits connected to work at 530 Sanchez Street: the demolition permit was upheld as issued and the permit to erect the new building was upheld on the condition that the site permit be revised to reflect the Jan. 10, 2013 stamped plan set.
Project sponsor representative Lou Belanger summarized changes — a measured reduction in height, front and rear set-backs, removal of an exterior stair assembly and other plan clarifications — and asked the board to accept the revised code‑compliant drawings. Zoning Administrator Scott Sanchez told the board he reviewed the Jan. 10 revision set and found the plans compliant with the planning code.
Appellant Dennis Stewart argued the building remains incompatible with the neighborhood and raised a procedural objection concerning Commissioner Honda’s participation. After deliberation, the board voted to uphold the demolition permit and to condition the site permit on the revised plans (stamp dated Jan. 10, 2013). The motion passed 4-0.
The board’s action keeps the demolition permit in place and requires the permit holder to submit the revised plan set for the site permit before final approval.
