The Planning Commission heard a contested conditional‑use request from Del Uva, a wine bar at 565 Green Street in North Beach, seeking live entertainment (primarily acoustic). Planning staff recommended disapproval on grounds that additional live entertainment would contribute to aggregate noise and overconcentration of late‑night venues in the immediate corridor.

Sponsor Yuri McCorkle and supporters submitted neighborhood petitions and described a community‑oriented, acoustic program supporting local musicians and pledging no outside promoters or commercial promotions. McCorkle said the venue would install sound‑dampening equipment and hire security for special events.

Central Station Captain Anna Brown told the commission she reviewed the application and recommended denial, saying Del Uva’s operations had shifted toward alcohol‑focused service and that the area already experiences entertainment‑related calls for service. She also questioned whether Del Uva met the North Beach bona‑fide eating‑place requirement (minimum 51% food sales) for its ABC license.

Commission debate focused on enforcement and cumulative impacts. Several commissioners expressed support for a narrowly tailored approval for acoustic, non‑amplified music with conditions; others cited enforcement limits and the pattern of problems on nearby Grant and Broadway. A motion for an intent to approve acoustic entertainment tied 3–3 and failed. The commission then voted to continue the matter to Dec. 17 for final action, leaving the public hearing closed.
