Commission hears bicycle plan EIR schedule and Western SoMa community plan briefing set for next week

Planning staff updated the Commission on the citywide Bicycle Plan environmental review and said the project remains on an accelerated schedule: the department expected administrative drafts in the coming weeks, proposed release by Thanksgiving and a final EIR next year. "We are on schedule ... to have the draft R out by the end of November," staff said. The Planning Department noted added consultant support and coordination with MTA staff to meet deadlines.
Members of the Western SoMa community (including Jim Micho and Mark Solomon) told the Commission a community-developed Western SoMa plan has been three years in the making and urged the Commission to initiate EIR work. Staff said a briefing and an action item to direct staff to begin EIR work would be before the Commission next week; staff recommended directing staff to start EIR scoping and identify alternatives. "We would ask you to direct staff to begin the EIR work and to continue work on the plan," staff said.
The Commission agreed to take up the Western SoMa plan as an action item at the next meeting to begin formal scoping for environmental review.
