Board Grants Rehearing in Taxi Medallion Revocation, Sets August 5 Date

The Board of Appeals voted 5–0 on July 1 to grant a rehearing in an appeal of the revocation of an A‑card (no. 48151) and medallion (no. 896), after the appellant said he missed prior notices and needs time to hire counsel. The rehearing was set for Aug. 5 and board staff will circulate a briefing schedule and filing deadlines.
The appellant (identified in the record as Mr. Lam) told the board he did not receive a rescheduling notice and cannot afford counsel until later in the month. Jordanath Thigpen of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) said the agency generally views rehearings as inefficient after a full deliberation but would not oppose granting Mr. Lam a final opportunity to be heard: “I would not oppose it,” Thigpen told the board, while urging that the rehearing be the last.
Commissioner Michael Garcia moved to grant the rehearing; the motion passed unanimously. Board staff said they will provide a briefing schedule, and the parties were told there will be a single brief from each side due in advance of the rehearing.
Next steps: The rehearing will be held Aug. 5; Mr. Pacheco will notify the appellant of briefing deadlines and any prehearing requirements.
