Planning Commission continues multiple cases, including Fillmore retail proposal

Polo Ralph Lauren's local manager, Kathy Post, asked commissioners to move the Fillmore Street case to April 3 after acknowledging the sponsor's earlier outreach had fallen short and describing a new outreach plan the company planned to deploy.
Commissioner Mike Antonini moved to continue items 1 through 6 to the dates specified in the staff report and to move item 12 (2040 Fillmore) to April 3. The motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote, 4 to 2, with Commissioners Catherine Moore and Bill Segaya voting no.
In taking the action commissioners framed the continuance as an opportunity to ensure fuller neighborhood engagement on sites where concerns over formula retail and community character have been raised. Commissioner Antonini cited public calls for more outreach and business support that surfaced after a San Francisco Business Times article. Commissioner Moore cautioned that some objections at prior hearings centered on formula retail policy generally, not only outreach, and asked that commissioners "keep our ears open to all sides" when item 12 returns.
Staff noted that other matters would return on the dates listed on the agenda (for example: 7.1447 to 04/10/2008; 2007.1019C to 04/17/2008; and several hearing continuances to March 20, March 27 and April 3 as detailed in the staff list).
What happens next: Item 12 (2040 Fillmore) is scheduled for further consideration on April 3, 2008, when the commission will hear any supplemental outreach materials and additional public comment. Other cases moved by the commission will return on the dates specified in the staff announcement.
