San Francisco — At its recent meeting the San Francisco Board of Appeals addressed multiple procedural items: it rescheduled several appeals, denied a late jurisdiction request, and approved a penalty reduction in a Department of Building Inspection (DBI) appeal.
The board voted to reschedule appeal O7-159 (Nancy House v. DBI, 75 Folsom St.) to May 21 after the appellant and the planning department asked for the change.
On a consent item (appeal O8-002, Victoria Ann Young v. DBI, 2123/240 Fourth Ave.), commissioners approved a motion to overrule and reduce a DBI penalty to two times the regular fee — the lowest reduction allowed by code. The motion to reduce the penalty passed 4–0.
The board also considered a jurisdictional request from Peter Birmingham (3622/20 Second St.). After hearing that Birmingham’s mailed notice was delayed, the board debated whether the late filing presented sufficient cause. President Garcia moved to deny the late jurisdiction request; the motion passed 3–1, with Commissioner Knox dissenting.
Other administrative matters included rescheduling of several appeals (Posada matter to April 9; appeal O7-174 to May 14) and handling a last-minute continuance request on a taxi-related appeal. The board announced scheduling and noticing rules: parties are responsible for tracking rescheduled hearing dates.
