San Francisco — Residents told the Planning Commission that contradictory and inconsistent hearing notices deprived neighbors of a meaningful opportunity to respond to a large development at 1100 Oak Street (also referenced as 401 Divisadero). After discussion about off‑site hearing notice rules, the Commission indicated a preference to continue the item and then formally moved to continue it to November 1.
Patricia Boyd, a neighborhood representative, said notices attached to the building were inconsistent with the calendar and were not posted with accurate room or hearing locations; she asked the Commission to postpone so neighborhood groups could review scale drawings and prepare comment. “What's disturbing me about this case is 3 things. I've repeatedly asked for to scale drawings because the reduced drawings do not seem to add up,” Boyd said.
David Tornheim testified the posted notice for the building listed a different hearing date and location and argued that the contradictory notices constituted defective notice under city rules. Commissioners discussed the requirements for an off‑site hearing and whether addenda and reposting of signs could remedy the problem. A motion to continue the 1100 Oak Street item to November 1 was made and approved by roll call.
What’s next: The Commission will repost notices with corrected dates and locations and the item will be scheduled for November 1 to allow neighborhood organizations time to review scaled drawings and prepare testimony.
