Board grants short continuance after consolidation permit not filed for First Street project

Lawrence Kornfield, chief building inspector, told the Board that no consolidation permit had been filed for the project at 3816/20 First Street and recommended the Board disapprove the permit to prompt an administrative process. Counsel for the permit holder, John Pollard, acknowledged responsibility for the delay and asked for a short continuance to allow all parties and a planning plan checker to meet and finalize consolidated plans.
Kornfield said the Department of Building Inspection would prefer resolution through cooperation rather than administrative enforcement: “we would be happy if it's the board’s desire to continue the case… it's a lot easier to resolve a case with a cooperative client.” Pollard said the consolidated documents are complete and requested three weeks for the process; he apologized for not informing the chief building inspector earlier that filings had not yet been submitted.
Vice President Fung moved to continue the matter to June 4; the board voted 4–0 (Holland absent) to grant the continuance. The continuance is intended to give the permit holder time to file the consolidation permit and to allow the parties to resolve outstanding items without administrative action.
Next step: the case will be back before the Board on June 4; if no consolidation permit is filed the building department may pursue administrative remedies.
