San Francisco City board forms selection subcommittee, withholds closed‑session details and reschedules multiple appeals

During public comment on permit appeals for properties at 1960–1980 Golden Gate (also referenced as 800–808 Lyon Street), public commenter Miss Fox urged postponement, saying removing the rear stairs and deck would leave tenants without rear egress and calling the plan "against the law to even try to do that." Andrew Zacks, attorney for the permit holder, told the board the record involves two separate permits — one involving removal of an encroaching rear deck subject to a court order and another covering front‑of‑building life‑safety work — and asked that the deck removal matter not be put on indefinite hold.
Board members discussed scheduling and the interplay with a CEQA appeal at the Board of Supervisors. The board agreed to continue both items to October 15, citing the need to coordinate with the other pending appeal and to allow the parties to appear on that calendar. The motion to continue passed 3–0.
On three penalty appeals (two at 430 Arch Street and one at 32 Sala Terrace), the record notes Mr. Kornfield consented by email to a reduction. Commissioner Kendall Goh moved to reduce all three penalties to two times the regular fee — described in the meeting record as the lowest amount authorized by the municipal code — and the board approved the reduction 3–0.
