The San Francisco Board of Appeals took several consequential actions at its Aug. 27 meeting, overturning a zoning administration decision about the legal use of a Haight-Ashbury property, reversing a Taxi Commission determination on medallion eligibility and upholding a planning stop-work order on a contested Potrero Hill project.
The board voted 5–0 to overturn the Zoning Administrator’s letter of determination for 529–531 Clayton Street (PO O8-079), accepting Commissioner Kendall Goh’s recommendation to reverse the finding and direct staff to draft findings for later adoption. Commissioners said DBI records showed historical evidence that complicated the permit record, but members expressed a preference for preserving the building’s architectural integrity and restoring housing consistent with the neighborhood’s needs. “The decision is not final until findings are adopted,” President Michael Garcia said after the vote.
On a separate matter (PO O8-085), the board overruled the San Francisco Taxi Commission’s determination that removed Khaldun Sukkar from the ramp-medallion waiting list for failure to respond. By a 4–1 vote, the Board found Sukkar had presented adequate evidence…
