Commission approves contract modification to direct search firm to recruit Planning Director

Planning staff explained the existing contract with Gilbert Tweed had language referencing a deputy director and the department, and that the modification would set the client as the commission and explicitly change the search to director level. Kate Stacy from the City Attorney’s Office confirmed that the firm had prepared a candidate profile and that the commission could comment on and refine that profile.
Commissioner Laguerre moved the contract change; the motion passed with recorded 'Aye' votes from the commissioners present. Staff said that, after the modification, detailed job‑description development and any extension or additional funding would be taken up in subsequent public sessions.
What this means: The commission now has formal authority under the contract modification to proceed with a director‑level search through the existing firm; subsequent steps (job description, possible contract extension, additional funds) will be returned to the commission for public discussion as needed.
