The Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use authorization for T‑Mobile to install three antennas inside the existing steeple at Temple United Methodist Church (1111 Junipero Serra Boulevard) and equipment cabinets behind a fenced area on site.
Staff reported the proposal is consistent with the city’s wireless facility siting guidelines, noted the site is a preference‑1 location for colocation, and said the Department of Public Health reviewed the RF report and determined cumulative exposure would be far below public limits (less than 2% of the public exposure limit, according to the applicant’s engineering report). The applicant, represented by Alex Warren, said the installation would improve coverage along Junipero Serra and surrounding areas, aid E911 location services, and be visually unobtrusive inside the steeple.
A community meeting reportedly drew no opposition. Commissioners asked technical questions about coverage and directionality; the commission voted to uphold staff’s recommendation and granted the conditional use authorization unanimously.
