Planning Department staff presented the department’s adopted fiscal year 2007 budget and walked commissioners through the changes from the commission’s February recommendation. The commission had recommended $22.3 million; the adopted budget is $20.4 million — a net reduction of $1.9 million.
Staff (Alicia Jean Baptiste) explained additions retained in the budget (support for the move to 1650 Mission, funding for charrettes, expanded historic‑preservation work and some targeted planning programs) and the primary reduction — removal of one year of capital funding for a permit-tracking system. The mayor’s office suggested the department pursue alternative financing for the permit-tracking project (including a potential permit surcharge) and staff said it will return with options.
Commissioners asked for a timeline and outline for the preservation element and for a report on the department’s succession planning and staffing allocations. Staff committed to provide a schedule and a public outline to the commission.
