Committee backs three retroactive Department of Public Health grants for HIV prevention research and services

The Budget and Finance Committee on Sept. 25 recommended the Board approve three retroactive grant acceptances for the Department of Public Health.
DPH Director Susan Buckbinder summarized the three grants: (1) a National Institutes of Health award through Florida State University for the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network (total about $173,000; project period 12/01/2023—1/30/2024), (2) a Department of Health and Human Services award through Haluna Health for "My PrEP Plus" to develop and pilot pre‑exposure prophylaxis support tools for transgender women (about $177,000; project period 09/07/20239/06/2025), and (3) an NIH award through Haluna Health for the "PrEP clinic optimizing injectable PrEP delivery for transgender and nonbinary people" (increase of about $89,000 to a total near $160,000; project period noted). All three items were presented as retroactive acceptances because DPH received notice after project start dates and completed internal fiscal approvals prior to Committee action.
Committee members thanked DPH for the work; there were no public speakers on these items. The panel moved the three grant acceptances to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
