The proposed contract would begin April 1, 2024, run an initial seven years with a three‑year option (total up to 10 years), and carry a not‑to‑exceed amount of $119 million.
Chair Connie Chan said she had spoken with the City Administrator and that the department requested a continuance while the committee awaits answers to outstanding questions raised previously, particularly about labor harmony and other operational concerns.
Evan Boyd, Regional Vice President for Ecology San Francisco, urged the committee to continue the item and cited environmental concerns (he said the plan could add "well over half a million additional truck miles" on city streets), possible scoring/pricing anomalies related to large compactors, and labor concerns about moving work away from union‑represented workers.
The committee recorded a roll‑call vote to continue the item to the call of the chair; Vice Chair Rafael Mandelman, Supervisor Myrna Melgar and Chair Chan each voted "Aye."
