Committee advances $890,000 SoMa stabilization fund grants for eight community organizations

On April 3 the Budget and Finance Committee voted to forward to the Board a resolution authorizing the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) to award eight grants totaling $890,000 from the SoMa Community Stabilization Fund.
Grace Lee, SoMa Fund Manager at MOHCD, said an RFP issued January 27, 2023, produced eight responsive proposals across four priority areas: housing, small business support, youth and family support, and community action grants. The Community Advisory Committee recommended funding for fiscal year 23–24 and recommended an additional year of funding at the same level based on outcomes and ongoing community need. The listed grantees include Bill Soro Housing Project, SomCan, Cultivate Labs, Filipino Education Center, United Playas and Success Centers (full list in the report), Lee said. The BLA recommended approval.
Chair Chan said she did not see any public speakers. The committee moved the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation; roll call recorded three ayes.
