Committee forwards ARIN agreement to Board to consolidate city IP addresses

The Department of Technology asked the Budget & Finance Committee on Jan. 17 to approve agreements with the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) to register and consolidate the city's internal and public-facing Internet Protocol addresses. Brian Roberts, a DT policy analyst, said the agreement is a standard ARIN form and that two contract terms (a perpetual renewal clause and ARIN's refusal to adopt the city's standard "McBride" principles language) require Board action.
Roberts said the annual cost is roughly $10,500 and that the agreements will separate internal and public-facing networks (for example, municipal fiber and public Wi-Fi) and consolidate existing address management. After brief committee discussion about the contract terms, the committee voted 3-0 to forward the ordinance to the full Board with a positive recommendation. There were no public speakers on the item.
