Committee advances city contracts for radiation badges and a retroactive gasoline contract amendment

Two procurement items were advanced by the Budget & Finance Committee on Nov. 1.
Dosimetry monitoring services: Lorna Walker of the Office of Contract Administration requested authority to execute a contract with a radiation detection company to provide dosimeter badges and dosimetry monitoring for city employees exposed to ionizing radiation (DPH, medical examiner, animal care, DPW and others). The five‑year contract (12/01/2023–11/30/2028) has a not‑to‑exceed amount of $420,000 based on historical annual usage (~$60,000/year). The services will allow the city to maintain lifetime exposure records and comply with applicable laws; the committee forwarded the resolution with a positive recommendation.
Western States Oil amendment: Mark Farley (OCA) explained a retroactive fifth amendment to the city’s gasoline contract with Western States Oil to increase the not‑to‑exceed amount by $2,950,000 to roughly $35,450,000 and extend the term by 19 days to Nov. 19, 2023. OCA said spending rose due to elevated oil prices and that the amendment was executed administratively to ensure continuous fuel for city operations while finalizing a replacement contract; BLA recommended approval of the amendment and the committee forwarded it to the full Board with recommendation.
Both items were forwarded to the full Board with positive recommendations.
