Rebecca Crowell of the City Attorney’s Office asked the Budget and Finance Committee to allow the office to accept and expend a $200,000 grant from the San Francisco Foundation to support coordination and strategic planning with other California public law offices.
Crowell said the work will focus on affirmative litigation priorities — chiefly consumer protection and worker-protection litigation — and that the city coordinated approvals with the Controller’s Office and the Mayor’s Office. When Chair Chan asked about the retroactive nature of the item, Crowell said the grant approval is retroactive only because the city entered into the grant agreement with the funder but has not yet expended any funding.
Vice Chair Rafael Mendelmann asked to be added as a cosponsor; the committee voted to forward the resolution to the full Board with a positive recommendation (aye votes recorded for Mendelmann and Chair Chan).
