The Budget & Finance Committee on May 19 approved three contract amendments for the Great Plates Delivered program and forwarded them to the full Board with positive recommendations after accepting Budget Analyst Office amendments.
Melissa McGee (Program Manager, Office of Community Partnerships, Dept. of Disability & Aging Services) explained that the Great Plates Delivered program — created in response to COVID‑19 with state and FEMA support — provides three prepared meals daily to older adults and high‑risk residents who cannot access meals, while supporting local restaurants. McGee noted Off the Grid partners with 46 restaurants, SF New Deal with 40 and MoonStar is an independent restaurant. She reported that the program has served roughly 2,000,463 meals to 3,885 San Francisco recipients and supports over 100 restaurants and many S.F. residents employed through vendors.
Sevin Campbell of the Budget Analyst Office recommended three technical amendments: make the MoonStar approval retroactive (file 210,415), reduce the SF New Deal not‑to‑exceed amount by $7,000,000 to about $39,900,000 (file 210,447) and reduce the Off the Grid amount by $4,200,000 to about $46,000,000 (file 210,448). BLA reported a collective increase across contracts of about $50,700,000 in the recommended form and recommended approval as amended.
Chair Haney moved to accept the amendments and forward the amended resolutions to the full Board; the committee recorded unanimous 'aye' votes and the items were forwarded.
Next steps: The amended contract resolutions will appear on the full Board agenda for consideration and any retroactive approvals will be noted in the official file.
