Committee forwards O'Shaughnessy Boulevard emergency‑relief grant to Board

The Budget & Finance Committee recommended that the Board approve a retroactive increase of approximately $226,000 in FHWA Federal Emergency Relief funds for the O'Shaughnessy Boulevard permanent restoration project. Oscar Quintanilla of Public Works said the increase brings the total grant close to $3 million and will fund construction work—rock anchors, steel mesh and a catchment fence—between Malta Drive and Del Valle Avenue to prevent recurring rockslides.
Quintanilla said the FHWA program permits local agencies to increase project estimates by up to 10% before detailed design is complete, and that Caltrans and FHWA authorized the additional funding after reviewing final design and cost estimates. The resolution does not change the project scope and is retroactive to align with the same eligibility period as the previously authorized funds. No public comment was received and the committee voted to forward the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
