Committee recommends DA grants for insurance-fraud work to full Board

The Budget & Finance Committee on March 17 recommended that the full Board approve two retroactive grant resolutions for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Supriya Perry told the committee the California Department of Insurance funds will support investigation, deterrence and prosecution of automobile and workers’ compensation insurance fraud for the July 1, 2020–June 30, 2021 grant period.
Perry said the retroactive resolutions are required because the Department of Insurance’s grant period and the city’s budget processes differ, and the DA’s office must obtain a separate resolution after the grant signing. There was no public comment on the items, and Chair Matt Haney moved both items to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
The committee recorded unanimous support in roll-call votes and will forward the resolutions to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
