The Budget and Finance Committee forwarded a resolution authorizing the District Attorney’s Office to renew a revolving fund agreement with the California Victims Compensation Board for $75,000 to expedite emergency payments to crime victims.
Dr. Gina De Castro Rodriguez, Chief of Victim Services for the District Attorney’s Office, said the fund allows the office to make immediate payments for medical bills, mental health treatment, funerals, relocation and other urgent needs while the state’s claim processing in Sacramento (typically 30–60 days) completes. The fund is reimbursed when the state processes and pays the claim, and the dollars revolve back into the fund.
Supervisor Shimon Walton said he was proud to sponsor the item and noted ongoing efforts to secure additional resources to assist victims. With no callers in the public queue, the committee moved the item forward with a positive recommendation (roll call recorded three ayes).
