Committee approves release of reserves for Hetch Hetchy transmission line upgrades

Margaret Hannaford, Division Manager for Hetch Hetchy Water and Power, told the committee the total estimated project cost is approximately $37.97 million and that the PUC anticipates receiving mitigation payments totaling roughly $33.33 million (including $9,465,559 already received); the remaining ~ $4.64 million would be funded from the Hetch Hetchy capital program. The PUC requested release of $9,465,559 in reserves to fund near‑term planning and review.
The Budget and Legislative Analyst noted small discrepancies in the draft numbers provided to the committee (transcript references $9,500,000, $9,460,000 and the report’s table) and recommended releasing the available reserve amount consistent with the report. The committee approved the recommended release and filed the hearing (roll call recorded three ayes). The PUC said it will return to the committee for additional funding releases prior to construction as more mitigation agreements complete and payments are received.
