Summary
The committee voted to forward to the full Board a maintenance agreement allowing the city and Arts Commission to maintain Jorge Pardo’s public artwork at Van Ness Avenue BRT stations; the Arts Commission said the agreement is required by Caltrans and cost‑neutral to the city under the art enrichment ordinance (Admin. Jacqui Montesco of the Arts Commission asked the committee to approve a maintenance agreement with Caltrans that would permit the Arts Commission to maintain artwork by Jorge Pardo on Caltrans right‑of‑way at the Van Ness BRT stations. Montesco explained the work was funded under the city's art enrichment ordinance (Administrative Code §3.19), which sets aside up to 2% of eligible construction costs for public art. Because Van Ness is a state highway, Montesco said the city must enter into an agreement with Caltrans to place and maintain artwork on their property. The Arts Commission noted the agreement is intended to be cost‑neutral to the city.
With no BLA report and only one caller in support, the committee voted to forward the maintenance agreement and related ordinance to the full Board with a positive recommendation (three ayes).
