Committee recommends acceptance of philanthropic gifts to DPH for Epic platform training and Laguna Honda programs

For Item 2, Eric Raffin, DPH Chief Information Officer, said a $105,000 gift from EPIC Charitable Funds—awarded through Epic Systems' charitable fund for safety‑net customers—will be used to expand training and learning for analysts and clinicians using the city's Epic electronic health record system. Raffin noted the department went live on Epic in August 2019 and relied on the platform in its COVID‑19 response; he characterized the acceptance as retroactive and apologized for delayed processing.
For Item 3, William Fraser, Gift Fund Manager for Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, described a $79,453 donation from the Friends of Laguna Honda. Fraser said $42,653 will pay for one year of the existing 'Art with Elders' contract and $36,800 will be added to the Centers of Excellence wish list to buy items such as iPads, home‑like furniture and supports for animal‑assisted therapy. Fraser said the Friends have supported Laguna Honda for more than 65 years and offered to answer questions about the fund's use.
No public callers were queued for either item. The committee moved both items to the full Board with positive recommendations during roll calls.
