Committee OKs annual authorization for emergency-preparedness grant applications

The committee unanimously moved to forward an annual governing-body resolution that authorizes designated city and county officials to apply for and accept state and federal emergency-preparedness grants.
Mary Landers of the Department of Emergency Management said the resolution lists five grant streams commonly pursued by the department — the Urban Area Security Initiative; State Homeland Security Preparedness Grant Program; Emergency Management Performance Grant; Local Government Oil Spill Contingency Plan Grant; and a Hazard Mitigation Grant — and that the Office of Emergency Services requires annual naming of applicant agents.
With no public comment, the committee voted 3–0 to forward the resolution to the full Board of Supervisors for consideration on May 19.
