The Budget and Finance Committee voted April 8 to forward to the full Board an ordinance retroactively authorizing the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) to accept and expend $1,400,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for the Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grants Program.
DEM staff Mary Landers and Christine Livard told the committee the grant will support a logistics and supply‑chain management project to develop commodity points of distribution across the San Francisco Bay Area’s 12 counties. The ordinance also amends the annual salary ordinance to add two grant‑funded part‑time positions to manage the project and contractor work.
One caller lined up for public comment did not complete the connection; after limited questions, the committee moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation on a roll‑call vote (three ayes).
Next steps: the item will be placed on the Board of Supervisors agenda for final acceptance of the grant and authorization to implement the project.
