The Budget and Finance Committee recommended forwarding a resolution authorizing the San Francisco Police Department to accept and expend a $65,000 grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation’s Division of Boating and Waterways to procure replacement motors for the Marine 3 vessel.
Patrick Leung, chief financial officer for the San Francisco Police Department, told the committee the Marine 3 vessel recently underwent major refurbishment and that replacing two motors with grant funds will extend the vessel’s useful life, increase operational capacity and reduce future maintenance costs because the new motors are covered under warranty. The department said the vessel’s continued operation complements Coast Guard jurisdiction by enabling local patrols in the city and county’s waters.
No public comment was received and the committee moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
