Port seeks $105,000 grant to create backup operations center at Pier 50

Port Chief Financial Officer Katie (Catherine) Petrioni said the grant will support building an alternative Department Operations Center at Pier 50 as a backup to the primary DOC at Pier 1. The proposal calls for fiber connectivity to the city's WAN and procurement of emergency radios and audiovisual equipment. Petrioni noted the grant is retroactive but that the port has not yet expended any of the funds.
Why it matters: Port staff said the Pier 1 primary DOC is vulnerable as seawall work progresses; an alternative location is intended to ensure continuity of port emergency operations through the grant period (Sept. 1, 2018–Aug. 31, 2021).
The committee moved the item to the Board with a positive recommendation with no objections recorded.
