On Sept. 11, 2019 the Budget and Finance Committee voted to forward to the Board of Supervisors a resolution authorizing the District Attorney's Office to accept and expand a California Victim Compensation Board grant not to exceed $267,000 for the grant period July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2022. Jackie Ortiz of the DA’s Victim Services Division presented the request, explaining statutory authorization and asking the committee to approve acceptance of the funds so the office may continue the criminal restitution compact.
A committee member sought clarification because the department had described the resolution as retroactive; the committee agreed to amend the resolution by striking the retroactive language. Chair Sandra Lee Fearer then moved the amended item to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the committee took the motion without objection.
