Budget panel forwards $650,000 reallocation to fund District 7 participatory budgeting and disaster planning

The Budget & Finance Committee on June 6 unanimously moved to forward an ordinance that reappropriates $650,000 to District 7 projects and city disaster planning.

Chair Sandra Lee Feuer said the committee would send the measure to the full Board with a positive recommendation. The clerk had read that the ordinance would move $400,000 from general city responsibility, allocate $300,000 to District 7 participatory budgeting projects, and appropriate $100,000 to the City Administrator to support District 7 disaster planning; it also reappropriates $250,000 from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to Vision Zero projects in District 7 for fiscal year 2018–19.

Dan Goncher of the Budget and Legislative Analyst—s Office recommended approval, summarizing the breakdown and noting the funds would come from existing appropriations. An unidentified speaker representing the sponsor described District 7—s participatory budgeting efforts as in their sixth year, saying roughly 2,000 people voted in the process and the district expects about 25 projects totaling nearly $1 million. The sponsor urged the committee to approve the allocation so the projects could move forward.

Chair Feuer moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation; the motion was seconded and taken without objection. The matter will appear on the Board of Supervisors agenda on June 18 unless otherwise noted.
