Committee approves Public Defender agreement to develop TV miniseries, proceeds to benefit nonprofits

Clerk read Item 10, authorizing the San Francisco Public Defender to enter into a shopping agreement with Bobcat Studios LLC for development of a documentary or miniseries based on the Public Defender's Office. Matt Gonzales attended for the office and explained that the Public Defender's Office would receive approximately $15,000 per episode and that proceeds would support community-based nonprofit organizations that work to reduce juvenile crime in low-income neighborhoods.
Jeff Adachi, the Public Defender, was in trial and did not attend in person; his office sent a representative. Committee members characterized the agreement as straightforward, heard no public comment, and voted unanimously to forward the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
The Board will consider the agreement and any associated contract terms in a future meeting.
