City accepts BayREN grant to expand multifamily and commercial energy retrofits

The Department of the Environment asked the committee to approve a midyear augmentation of BayREN funding from the Association of Bay Area Governments for multifamily and commercial energy‑efficiency projects.
Peter Gallardo said the department has participated in BayREN since 2013, has assessed more than 22,000 units and completed retrofits in over 7,000 units; the $334,500 augmentation will support continued multifamily implementation and development of a commercial retrofit expansion plan. "This grant augmentation before you today will support the existing implementation of our multifamily program, and it will also be used by the department to develop a program plan for expanding BayREN retrofits to the commercial building sector in 2019," Gallardo said.
No public comment was offered. Supervisor Cohen moved to forward the resolution with a positive recommendation to the full Board; the committee approved without objection.
