Committee forwards $199,398 CEC grant to plan citywide EV readiness

Peter Galata of the San Francisco Department of the Environment described an accept‑and‑expend grant of $199,398 from the California Energy Commission to fund a one‑year blueprint for accelerating private‑sector vehicle electrification in San Francisco. Galata said the effort aligns with the city's climate action strategy and transit‑first policy and will identify actions to reduce barriers to electric‑vehicle (EV) adoption.
Galata noted that private passenger vehicles and trucks represent more than 90 percent of local transport emissions and that EVs currently account for roughly 1 percent of vehicle registrations in the city; the grant will fund planning work carried out by existing department staff and partnerships with public and private stakeholders.
A public commenter urged using solar infrastructure to charge EVs and reduce dependence on PG&E. The committee accepted the presentation and moved the item to the full Board with a positive recommendation.
